I've made the most of the opportunity to get out in the garden again whilst big daughter was studying and small daughter was playing outside with a friend. I got plenty of jobs done too - itty bitty jobs that didn't warrant photographing but needed to be done, and it's made me feel much better being able to tick them off my list.
I don't know if you remember, but back in January I cleared out the strawberry bed and ordered some new runners. Well, the runners arrived in the post on Friday morning - giving a whole new meaning to buying strawberries by the packet! (Yes, yes, I know that should be punnet but the joke doesn't work otherwise J)
I've bought two different varieties - Christine, an early fruiting variety (and also because I'm amused by plants that have the same name as me) and Flamenco, a "perpetual" (longer-fruiting) variety which will hopefully between them give us strawberries from June until October.
I added some more compost to the box to lift the soil level up again and laid out the runners where I wanted to plant them.
Once they were planted, I went to find some netting - one of our cats was watching with great interest and I knew that as soon as my back was turned he'd be in there digging holes. For some reason, our cats seem to think that they own the garden and dig wherever they like, scattering anything that's in their way. It's not the best way to treat young strawberries!
Finally, I wanted to show you the crocus flowers that have opened up in the sunny weather. Aren't they lovely? They're such a beautiful colour, I'm so glad the mice missed these bulbs!
A very quick post today but I've got something exciting to show you next week - my new starry socks are just about finished and I can't wait to share them with you! Hope you've had a lovely weekend too, whatever you've been doing.
