Feet!

Our postman had no idea that the white plastic mail bag he was delivering contained body parts ...

Here in Winwick, we still have a postman who arrives in a red van and stops to chat for a few minutes, just like Postman Pat - though hopefully without getting into some of the scrapes that Pat gets into! On this particular day, our postie thought it was highly amusing that the bag he was handing over contained two pairs of white plastic feet (although he wasn't in the least bit surprised, which maybe I should find disconcerting!).

I've bought them for a particular reason - not, perhaps as garden ornaments, although I do quite like the look ...

Nor are they to become unusual flowers, definitely a talking point amongst the greenery ...

I've bought them to take to Black Sheep Wools with me in a few weeks' time.  Remember I told you about Love Your Yarn Shop Day on Saturday 2 May and how I'll be there with my socks?  Well, I want to be able to show off some knitted socks and rather than just have them looking as if I've just pulled them out of my sock drawer (which I will have done!), I thought they'd look much smarter on a foot.  Naturally, nobody wants to look at my feet in the air all day so I found these.

They're all right, aren't they?  I'm really quite pleased with them.  The socks fit just nicely and you can see the whole sock rather than just what's poking out of a boot or a shoe.

Now all I need to do is work out how to get them to stand up without taking a half-built rockery to Black Sheep with me!

  1. Take the rockery!
I think this is one of the funniest and best ideas I've read in a while. I love the fact that you have taken the time and consideration to think about how to display your socks, and the trouble and expense of getting ... feet!
They look really good and, as I am never ever going to knit a pair of socks, I find myself wondering .... why am I sitting here wondering where you got your feet from and whether my garden really would benefit from some feet stuck in it.... In your past life were you a hypnotist or an ad man?

    1. I could start a new trend, couldn't I? Imagine it, plastic feet in every garden! That would be really funny - and if you really want to know where I got the feet from I can tell you ;-) xx

    2. Just so that if I am ever asked where feet are available, it would be good to know. One never knows when that little gem of information will be useful. That's a serious yes, please!

    3. Oh, and do they do other body parts? I quite fancy having a single arm waving from a pile of soil.....

    4. Ebay! And yes, you can get other body parts too ... I'm not sure I should be encouraging you to have arms waving from the soil though - that's the stuff of nightmares! :-) xx

  2. This is so funny, I had no idea it was possible to buy model feet! They seem to be in a position for high heels, maybe you could stick them in a pair of sandals to hold them in place? Love the stripy sock! x

    1. Ah, I would never have thought of doing that, thank you! I'll have a root through my wardrobe and give it a go xx

  3. Oh this is hilarious!!!! I love your concern that the postie was not concerned to be delivering feet, but I am also highly amused at the idea of you taking the feet out into the garden and poking them different places for the photo shoot!! I wonder what your neighbours thought.... It is a great way to show off your lovely socks for the workshop though!! Hope you can work out a display method that doesn't involve the whole of your rockery! Hope it goes well too and that you enjoy it! xx

    1. You can tell I'm really busy during the school holidays ..! I think the neighbours have given up wondering what's going on in our garden these days :-) xx

  4. Oh, and I meant to say, thank you for your comment yesterday about the vine, I added a note to the post for others to see your comment and went and had a look myself, great info, I am less worried now, and realised that it was because I pruned later than I normally do. Thank you again!! xx

    1. You're very welcome. It's always worrying when your plants do something unexpected, although generally there's a reason why and often it's not a problem at all xx

  5. Ah-ha... now the alarming appearance of body parts in you garden makes sense! Phew! Sandals could work... and it'd be amusing to endorse the infamous sock/sandal combo! Failing that, stacks of books? I can't think what else you could use - bricks or rocks are rather cumbersome to transport. Cake tins? They'd be lighter!

    1. Yes, not a dodgy packet of seeds after all! Cake tins are a good idea, or maybe books. I don't think Black Sheep would thank me for taking the rocks with me! xx

  7. I wondered where this post was going for a moment! What a wonderful way to display your lovely socks. I will be interested to see how you display them without taking the rockery with you!

    1. Thank you! I've taken the feet out of the bushes now - I was a bit worried that the dog would find them and I didn't want people to see him running round with a foot in his mouth :-) xx
